Blending the New with the Old
|
|
HUB Design/Build was given the task of building a new kitchen
addition for this older stone house in Lower Merion Township.
Most of the homes in this particular area are stone, and the
owners wanted to maintain that character. But HUB was up to
the challenge. |
 |
|
The stonemason in this view is in the process of taking out
the sidewall of the old kitchen area. The wall is about 12"
thick and we can see the old lathe work in the interior. None
of the demolished stone will be used in the new wall. In fact,
it was used to fill in the hole created by removing an old oil
tank. |
 |
In the picture at right, we have a view of the completed addition.
It can be seen how well the stonework blends in with the old
stone. The stone is cultured fieldstone. But one would never
know from looking at it, even in person, that it is not real
stone.
