Our clients had a fireplace in their two-story family room that was so low it did not allow viewing from the kitchen or the foyer as it was floor level and was blocked by furniture. The mantel was a small wood shelf attached to the face of a stucco tower that extended up to the very high ceiling. The fireplace and hearth were raised and now feature flagstone slabs and cultured stone.
