Our clients wanted to combine their kitchen space with a family room that had been created many years ago from what was the original garage. There was an enclosed stairway on a common wall of the two areas that lead to the second floor that needed to be removed. This was complicated as the walls were load-bearing. By removing the stairs, a space on the second floor was created for a new laundry area. The existing mud room was also part of the remodel. We replaced the entry door with a new door unit with a side light, and the new tile floor is radiantly heated. The new hinged patio door floods the kitchen with natural light and assists with making this large open space bright and airy.
